Prof. Felix Narku Engmann PhD, MSc, and BSc.

Prof. Felix Narku Engmann is a PhD. holder in Food Science and Engineering from Jiangsu University, PR China. He also holds an MSc. Degree in Food Science and Technology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi-Ghana, and a BSc. (Major) in Food Science from the University of Ghana. After his first degree in Food Science, he started working in the food industry, playing roles such as Factory Manager, Product Development Manager, and Quality Assurance Manager. During this period, he gained a lot of experience on the job and benefitted from several training programmes in Food Processing and Food Safety. In his career at the industrial level, he developed several food products which were certified/approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Ghana Standards Authority (GSA). Prof. Engmann started his teaching career at Kumasi Technical University in 2007. He is an Associate Professor of Food Science and Technology in the Food Technology Department, where he currently heads. He is the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology of Kumasi Technical University. His area of research and specialty is in new product development, fortification of local staple foods, and formulation and implementation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems for food companies. He serves as a Food Science and Technology Programme Expert and conducts programme accreditation exercises in tertiary institutions for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Again, Prof. Engmann serves as an External Examiner/Assessor to universities both within and outside of Ghana. In addition, he serves as a reviewer of manuscripts for several journals and publishing houses.

Moreover, he performs consultancy services to food processing businesses and hospitality facilities. He was one time a registered member of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS), and in that capacity, he helped in training Restaurant Operatives, Traditional Food Caterers, and Hoteliers in the Ashanti and Eastern regions of Ghana on food safety issues. He has been part of teams that have won grants for research and training. Prof. Engmann has served as a Facilitator to train food handlers in the Ashanti, Bono, Savannah, and Upper West regions of Ghana in training programmes sponsored by the Ghana Skills Development Fund. He has participated and presented academic papers at international conferences, as well as published copious number of refereed journal articles and Book Chapters in well recognized journals and publishing houses.
